This was confirmed by MPD District Director PBGen. Leo Francisco.
The fatality was identified as PSSgt. Cenen Evangelista. He was assigned at the MPD-Traffic and Enforcement Unit.
It was learned from Francisco that Evangelista received the first dose for the anti-coronavirus disease jab, but before he was inoculated he underwent swab testing that turned positive results from the virus but he was categorized as asymptomatic.
He was given the first dose of the vaccine on 31 March and died a week later at an undisclosed hospital.
Evangelista was reportedly hesitant to get inoculated but still complied out of fear of being slapped with an administrative case. He, in turn, did not disclose his true health condition during the screening process.
It was also learned that the victim had been in service for 35 years and was nearing his retirement as a police officer.
To date, the MPD has tallied a total of 817 Covid-19 infections. Of the said figure, 712 have recovered while 4 succumbed to the viral respiratory disease.
