President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved the 90-day extension of SIM registration, Malacañang said on Tuesday.

Marcos gave the approval during a sectoral meeting with Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy and other government officials in Malacañang.

“Failure to register within the given period of extension will result in limited SIM services from the telecommunication companies,” the Palace said in a statement.

As of April 24, 2023, 82,845,397 subscribers have registered their SIM, or equivalent to 49.31 percent of the 168 million subscriber base nationwide.

If the 100 percent target registration would not be met on April 26, Uy earlier said that around 70 to 80 percent registration might be achieved.

Signed into law in October 2022, the SIM Card Registration Act mandates that SIM owners have 180 days or until April 26, 2023, to register their numbers.
