The extradition of televangelist Apollo Quiboloy to the United States is currently off the table, as he must face legal proceedings in the Philippines first, according to President Ferdinand Marcos.
“Well, the extradition request is not yet there,” Mr. Marcos said in an interview on Monday.
He emphasized that Quiboloy must first address the judicial processes within the country and that local cases against the leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), are the focus for now.
“For the moment, we are not looking at extradition,” Mr. Marcos said. “What we are focusing on are the complaints filed here in the Philippines, and those are what he needs to face first.”
The President’s comments arose amid speculation on Quiboloy’s possible extradition to the United States, where he is charged with sex trafficking and other allegations.
Mr. Marcos stated that Quiboloy’s arrest was based on a court-issued warrant and the matter is now with the judiciary, leaving the executive branch responsible only for enforcing the court’s order.
“It is now in the court’s hands; it’s no longer with the executive. Our role was to enforce the court’s order,” he added.
Quiboloy was arrested on Sunday, September 8, in Davao City and is expected to face charges in a Pasig court as part of ongoing legal proceedings.
