MANILA, Philippines — It has not been a smooth run for Filipino mixed martial artist Jeremy Miado in his five previous fights.
Miado has won just one of those bouts – a unanimous decision win over Gilbert Nakatani in February last year – before he absorbed a TKO loss against Avazbek Kholmirzaev in December.
Now, he will try to get back on track as he takes on South African Willie van Rooyen at ONE Fight Night 41 next month.
The two will clash in a flyweight MMA bout that will take place at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok on March 14.
“Every loss teaches you something. I took time to reset, went back to work and focused on improving every area,” Miado said in a statement.
“Now, I have the chance to compete against Rooyen, and I’m thankful to ONE Championship and Chatri [Sityodtong] for giving me another opportunity to showcase my skills. I’m ready to show my growth and perform at my best.”
“The Jaguar” currently has a record of 7-9 in ONE.
After winning four straight matches, he lost the next four against Mansur Malachiev, Lito Adiwang, Keito Yamaktia and Hiroba Minowa.
He then won against Nakaani before his TKO defeat against Kholmirzaev.
Van Rooyen, for his part, entered ONE with a 7-0 record with five finishes, before he also fell against Kholmirzaev via submission.
