Mighty Americans sweep Volleyball Nations League

MANILA, Philippines — Perfection.

That was how the United States came out of Week 2 of the Women’s Volleyball Nations League after sweeping all its four matches, including Sunday’s 25-22, 18-25, 25-16, 25-20 victory over Serbia at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

“I think our team did a really good job of staying together, we played really clean volleyball,” said USA outside hitter Logan Eggleston, who sizzled with 17 points including 16 off spikes.

“As a complete unit, it took all 15 of us to complete the 4 and 0 this week so were really, really proud,” she added.

The sweep catapulted the proud Americans to the provisional lead with 20 points on seven wins in eight outings in this event presented by the Philippine Sports Commission.

Interestingly, the last time the US played on Philippine soil four years ago, it also had a pristine 4-0 record.

And the Americans hope to sustain the momentum going into Osaka, Japan set July 8.

“I’m excited to see what the next week brings and how we can continue on to the finals,” said Eggleston.

Avery Skinner likewise came through and fired away with 18 hits.

But unlike the first three outings before this one, the US finally conceded a set when it lost concentration in the second frame.

They found their stride at the right time and just dominated the last two sets to seal the deal.
