MANILA, Philippines — Miller Time.
Janti Miller sparked the San Beda Red Lions over the San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 62-50, in their NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball clash Sunday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Miller tallied a career-high 24 points, with 10 coming in the first quarter, to go with six rebounds in the Red Lions’ fourth straight victory.
“I was ready to lock in when we got started,” he said after the win.
“I do a lot of meditation to get ready for this game but I had to stay locked in, composed and humble even after this game,” he added.
San Beda was too hot to handle right from the get-go, taking a 28-14 lead at the end of the first.
This rose to as much as 23 points, 45-22, towards the end of the first half.
The Stags, though, charged back and cut the deficit to single digits, 43-52, early in the final frame after a 3-pointer by Ian Cuajao.
But Miller ignited the finishing kick of San Beda to put the game to bed.
Jomel Puno backstopped the Red Lions with 10 points and 17 rebounds. Nygel Gonzales chipped in six markers.
Jhunniel dela Rama had a double-double of 12 markers and 10 boards for the Stags, while Cuajao had 10 points.
San Beda rose to 6-1 in the season while San Sebastian slipped to 1-7.
