MISS Universe Philippines 2020, Rabiya Mateo.
A few days before the 2021 Miss Universe Philippines (MUPh) coronation night, the 28 delegates slew in their swimsuits and sashayed in their evening gowns in the preliminary competition held at Clark International Airport in Pampang.
Kisses Delavin of Masbate, Maureen Wroblewitz of Pangasinan, Steffi Rose Abersturi of Cebu, Maria Corazon Abalos of Mandaluyong, Izabela Jasmine Umali of Manila, Katrina Dimaranan of Taguig and Leren Mae M. Bautista of Laguna were among the early favorites.
Delavin wore a stunning blue gown by Louis Pangilinan. The color took inspiration from Masbate’s marine sanctuary, while each bead, sequin and crystal embellishment and structure represent the people of her province and her loyal supporters. The train and its
one-shoulder length gloves are a representation of her fans as a sturdy wall to lean on.

Meanwhile, Bautista wore a silver Louis Pangilinan Fashion Empire gown decorated with hand embellishment to represent “Mariang Makiling” — the legendary goddess believed to be guarding the dormant volcano in Los Baños where Bautista hails from. The intricate arrangement of beads, crystals and sequins complements Bautista’s stunning smile, sparkling eyes and shiny black hair.

Dimaranan wore a piece from Martin Bautista. From Fernando Amorsolo’s Dalagang Bukid to BenCab’s Sabel, the different permutations of tapis and its intimate art of covering the body of the Filipino woman had been a marker of our culture and identity. The four corners of the lowly fabric folded with grace and courage having been able to conceal both the abanico and the golok.
Umali looked resplendent in a Greek goddess-inspired emerald slink wrap-style gown by Nat Manilag.
Abalos was in a stunning yellow custom Mark Bumgarner gown.
Aberasturi wore a nude-colored Philipp Tampus brassiere-type gown with an open neckline extending to the belly.
Izabela Jasmine Umali
Wroblewitz, on the other hand, walked the boarding lane of Clark in am embellished, mesmerizing mermaid gown by Mara Chua.
Miss Philippines Universe Rabiya Mateo will crown her successor on 30 September at the Henann Resort Convention Center in Alona Beach Panglao, Bohol.
