Multiple people dead in North Carolina shooting, official says

Multiple people were killed and at least one person was hospitalized in what’s being described as a “mass shooting” in Prospect Hill, North Carolina.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance “regarding an early morning mass shooting on Brooks Road in Prospect Hills, North Carolina.”

A Caswell County official later told WGHP that multiple people were killed in what’s believed to be an isolated incident. At least one person was hospitalized, and no suspect has been identified, the official added.

“This event occurred around 8:30 AM. Caswell Deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol immediately responded,” the state bureau wrote in an earlier Facebook post.

“There is no threat to the general public at this time,” it said in an earlier message. “The Castle County sheriffs office is working to gather the facts of the case.”
