MANILA, Philippines — Sunday (November 9)'s collegiate games for both the NCAA and the UAAP have been postponed, the leagues announced on Saturday, due to the Typhoon Uwan.

NCAA basketball and chess games, as well as UAAP basketball, men’s football and high school volleyball matches set on Sunday, will be rescheduled, both leagues said.

The Mapua Cardinals and Arellano Chiefs are supposed to play at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, as well as the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals and the Benilde Blazers in the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball action.

In the UAAP men’s basketball tournament, the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers were set to take on the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, with a rivalry game between the La Salle Green Archers and the Ateneo Blue Eagles supposed to cap off the double-header at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

“The safety of our student-athletes, coaches, officials, fans and everyone involved is our top priority. We strongly advise everyone to take all necessary precautions, stay indoors if possible and ensure the safety of your family and loved ones during this severe weather event,” the UAAP said

“The UAAP will release the rescheduled dates and times for the affected games as soon as they are finalized. We thank you for your understanding and patience, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on the court safely once conditions improve,” it added.

The same reason was provided by the NCAA.

“This decision has been made to prioritize the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, officials and spectators. A new schedule for the affected game will be announced once conditions permit and coordination with the NCAA management committee has been finalized.”

Earlier in the day, the PBA announced that basketball games set on Sunday have also been postponed due to Uwan.

Several local government units have likewise suspended classes and government work on Monday, November, 10, due to the threat of the typhoon.
