Niki rises with the moon

The moon is the Earth’s perpetual moderator, keeping it on its course and stabilizing the atmosphere that makes it a habitable place for all living things.

Similar to our planet, the brightest and largest object in the night sky also provides sustenance to the proverbial night owls or, in a more updated term, child or children of the moon.

This is how Indonesian singer-songwriter Nicole Zefanya, better known as Niki, describes herself as she feels “more energized and stimulated at night,” she said in a recent online interview for

Forbes.com.

This sparked the idea of the 10-track debut album aptly titled Moonchild and, just like the moon, it has its phases: crescent moon “Switchblade,” “Nightcrawlers” and “Selene”; half-moon/eclipse with “Tide,” “Pandemonium” and “Lose”; and full moon with “Plot Twist,” “If There’s Nothing Left…” and “Drive On.”

is even more celebrated as global lifestyle brand Guess partners with Moonchild’s mother and creates a limited

nine-piece capsule, bringing to life the fictional realm and character Niki created through the album.

According to the musician, collaborating with the American brand is like a “fever dream.”

“I used to play dress-up in my mom’s GUESS shoes and handbags as a little girl. I remember regularly perusing the stores with her as a teenager! To see an album that I worked on for two years take on a new life in fashion is a dream come true,” the “Lowkey” hitmaker mused.

THE lunar-themed pieces include a women’s constellation-printed tank top with matching biker shorts, unisex short sleeve t-shirts, hoodies, jogger pants and baseball hats. The crescent moon, half-moon/eclipse and full moon logo are found on all the clothing.

Meanwhile, Guess director of Brand Partnerships Nicolai Marciano describes Niki as “a young and energetic artist from the 88rising team that we have been excited to work with over the past three years.”

He added, “Even before the album was complete, Sean of 88rising and everyone else was very confident in Niki as an artist. The first time Niki had an in-store appearance for us, her presence created pandemonium with fans.

Once there was more music, I was able to check it out at the studio and she immediately impressed me with her sound and vision to market the album. To see it come full circle through our partnership is really meaningful for both brands.”

The success of the album, as well as the previous collaboration of the brand with the artists of 88rising, proves to have an impact on culture. With this capsule collection, Guess aims to put Niki’s aesthetics on a pedestal and allow its fans to have their own piece of Moonchild.

Guess Philippines held its exclusive online launch last 15 December but Niki fans can also cop these merch starting 19 December.
