Chef Lovely Jiao of Sugarplum Pastries is famous in the dessert party scene for her touch of fun festivity and unique takes on cakes and cupcakes, puffs and brownies. Imagine “plum”-gineered, twirly whirly rotating toppers and sculpted, lighted, anti-gravity cakes!
With her eye-catching and mouthwatering concoctions, chef Lovely’s personal mantra is “No to boring desserts!”
And for the holiday season, disappoint she did not. As a matter of fact, she overdid herself for she has come up with splendid
Christmas-themed offers such as meringue Christmas trees, gingerbread houses, gelatin snow globes and even lit-up cookie lanterns. Her much-admired Filipino-inspired spread showcases nipa huts with tiny figures of carolers.
She likewise prepared small treats for tokens and gifts such as the Merry Sampler of 4s, consisting of her blockbusters Almond Praline Chocolate Cake, Peach and Mango Tres Leches, Brownie Cheesecake and Cream Puff.
For kids, she recommends the Christmas Cookie-Do, inclusive of big cinnamon cookies, colored piping bags and sprinkle sets which lets youngsters be inventive in their own designs.
“We are happy that in some way we could reach out to families, spark a little joy and be a part of their celebration, especially in these uncertain times,” she said.
With a stacked, enviable resume — a culinary degree from the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, coupled with experience in the pastry kitchens of Makati Shangri-La and F1 Hotel Taguig — her priority shifted when she focused on her young son at home. With her erstwhile hectic career, she launched her very own brand, Sugarplum Pastries, and has not looked back since.
Chef Lovely, who admits she has a sweet tooth, understands the pleasure a Christmas motif confection brings to the Yuletide season. “As a child, I have always been fond of family reunions. One thing that stuck to my mind were the gatherings of all these sweet goodies,” she said.
“Now that I’m a mom, I want my kid to have something to bank on to his memory as well.”
Despite the flood of orders for holiday desserts, chef Lovely is delighted to accept customized orders for personal celebrations.
