MANILA – Former Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo is now in Puerto Princesa, Palawan two weeks before his installation as Vicar Apostolic of Taytay.

In a Facebook post, the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa (AVPP) Ugnayan, the official social media arm of the vicariate, said the Catholic prelate arrived at the Puerto Princesa International Airport from Manila around 11:10 a.m. on Thursday.

Pabillo was welcomed by Apostolic Administrator Rev. Fr. Reynante Aguanta, and Chancellor Rev. Fr. Philip Jerold Tan.

Upon arrival at the airport, he immediately proceeded to Taytay via a three-hour land trip where he will undergo a seven-day quarantine.

The installation rites will be held on Aug. 19 at the St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral in Taytay, at 9 a.m. to be led by Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula.

Meanwhile, the Manila Cathedral or the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Intramuros, Manila gifted Pabillo a chasuble — outer vestment worn by the officiating priest at mass — which he will use during his installation.

The chasuble was presented to the bishop by Manila Cathedral rector, Rev. Fr. Reginald Malicdem, and vice rector Fr. Kali Pietre Llamado.

“As Bishop Broderick Pabillo heads to Palawan for his canonical installation as the Vicar Apostolic of Taytay, Fr. Regie and Fr. Kali presented a gift from the Manila Cathedral, the chasuble to be used by the Bishop during his installation. Thanks to Leitourgos Vestments for their exquisite workmanship,” the Manila Cathedral said in a Facebook post.

On June 29, Pope Francis appointed the 66-year-old prelate as the second vicar apostolic of Taytay.

Prior to his new appointment, Pabillo served as auxiliary bishop of Manila since 2006.

The apostolic vicariate of Taytay, Palawan is under the Ecclesiastical Province of Manila. (PNA)
