Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. is a former representative and mayor of Mandaluyong City.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will greatly benefit from the years of experience and wisdom of its new chairman in the person of Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said Monday in welcoming the former Mandaluyong City mayor’s return to public service.
“Apart from displaying his exemplary skill and knowledge as a local chief executive, Chairman Abalos also demonstrated his acumen in legislative work as a Representative of the Congressional District of Mandaluyong City,” said Panelo in a statement.
Abalos, started his career as a successful lawyer. He then joined the local government of Mandaluyong City after being elected as councilor.
With a solid background in law and an untarnished reputation as a public servant, chairman Abalos earned the trust of the electorate was elected as the mayor of Mandaluyong City for several terms, according to Panelo.
The new MMDA chairman is the son of Benjamin S. Abalos, Sr., who occupied the same post in the MMDA, chaired the Commission on Elections, led Mandaluyong City as mayor, was a trial judge and a celebrated lawyer.
“With public service clearly in his DNA, Chairman Benjie (Benhur) Abalos will surely lead the MMDA to greater hs,” said Panelo.
