MANILA, Philippines — Brooke Van Sickle and most of the players orphaned by the Petro Gazz disbandment may have ended up with the same team they were originally intended to land — Nxled.

This came after a source from a PVL team that is in hot pursuit of the mighty Van Sickle and her fellow championship-seasoned teammates revealed they already forged a contract right after their deals expired by the end of last year.

“We’re always looking to upgrade but we’re told Nxled signed many of the Petro (Gazz) players,” one team executive, who requested anonymity, told The STAR Saturday.

That included Van Sickle, a two-time champion and conference MVP.

“I think she was signed immediately when her contract expired December 31,” the same source added.

This meant Van Sickle was already off the board.

Of the 11 players from Petro Gazz, only three have live contracts, including Reinforced Finals MVP MJ Phillips and talented young setter Julyana Tolentino.

“These three Petro Gazz players with live contracts, I was told, will still get the money owed from Petro Gazz and are free to choose which team they’re signing up,” said PVL president Ricky Palou.

The STAR tried to get confirmation from Akari and Nxled executive Mozzy Ravena but she hasn’t responded as of this writing.

There were plans for a Petro Gazz-Nxled merger as early as last year but it was nipped in the bud by the league, forcing the four-time league champions Angels to file for an indefinite leave.

But Van Sickle and the Angels still ended up with Nxled after all.
