More than P200 million worth of marijuana was seized when police and members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency carried out separate operations in Kalinga province and Metro Manila, the agencies reported Saturday.
Most of the stash, worth P192.9 million, was seized during marijuana clearing operations in different parts of Tinglayan town, Kalinga, on Thursday and Friday, the PNP said.
Some 795,000 fully-grown marijuana plants, 52.2 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves and stalks, and 14 bottles of cannabis oil were seized from 18 different plantations in Brgys. Loccong and Tulgao, it said.
Raiding teams destroyed and burned the uprooted plants on site, while investigation is underway to identify the plantations’ owners and maintainers.
In a separate report, the Kalinga provincial police said its operatives uprooted 11,000 more fully-grown marijuana worth P2.2 million, during an operation in Brgy. Buscalan on Thursday.
No cultivator was also apprehended during the raid on the 1,200-square meter plantation, where operatives later burned the confiscated plants.
Meanwhile, the PDEA-National Capital Region reported confiscating some P6 million worth of dried marijuana leaves and some marijuana plants during a buy-bust operation along C-6 Service Road in Brgy. New Lower Bicutan, Taguig City on Saturday morning.
The dried leaves, all packed in tube form, weighed about 50 kilograms. These were seized along with two marijuana plants in black plastic pots, PDEA-NCR director Christian Frivaldo said.
Operatives arrested one Fredo Diwan alias “Waliw,” a resident of Benguet, but his cohort Agosto Antonio alias “Darrel” managed to escape.
The two have been engaged in bulk distribution of marijuana in the southern part of Metro Manila and neighboring provinces, Frivaldo said, citing reports from a confidential informant.
Also confiscated during the sting were a Mitsubishi Delica van, an Android phone, driver’s license, and the buy-bust money.
