Tensions built in Davao City Monday morning as two special battalions from the Philippine National Police (PNP) raided the properties associated with controversial televangelist and Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy.

The supporters of the fugitive preacher gathered outside the KJC compound located in Buhangin, Davao City to defend the territory as police officers tried to serve warrants of arrests against Quiboloy and five of his co-accused.

Mapayapa po kaming naninirahan dito. Ito po ‘yung bahay namin. Hindi po kami papayag (We are living here peacefully. This is our home. We will not allow this),” yelled a guy using a megaphone in a video posted online by ABS-CBN News.

Quiboloy has evaded warrants of arrest served by authorities on three separate occasions: one from the Senate, which cited him in contempt on March 19; another from a court in Davao City on April 1; and another from a court in Pasig City.

The rabble-rousing pastor has been facing allegations of human trafficking, child abuse, labor violations rape and other sexual violence related charges.

PNP Davao Region Public Information Office chief Police Major Catherine Dela Rey the arrest warrants were served on the pastor and five others at around 4:00 in the morning. These were issued by the regional trial courts (RTC) of Davao City and Pasig City.

Quiboloy and his fellow outlaws, however, were not around in the KOJC compound. Although there was resistance among the supporters “at first,” Dela Rey said they were still able to serve the arrest warrants “peacefully.”

“Supporters and followers of KJC were urged to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing implementation of court processes,” Dela Rey said, reading an official statement.

“Authorities emphasize that this action is based on the lawful order of the court and due process to address these serious charges,” she stressed.
