That was the welcome development head coach Jojo Lastimosa revealed – a respite for the team who has been hounded by several injuries to its key players early in the season.

Lastimosa shared that Pogoy, who was sidelined by a rare heart condition called Myocarditis, was already doing light workouts and, barring any setbacks to his condition, could be making his comeback as early as next month.

The Tropang Giga coach said there are cardiologists who have been regularly monitoring Pogoy every two weeks. The streaky gunner actually passed all of his tests in his recent check-up, opening the possibility of return.

“Medyo malapit na si Roger. Last (health) bulletin from Roger, his heart… wala na siyang signs. He passed all the stress tests, and then sabi ng doctors na nag-check sa kanya, instead of six months we could probably see Roger in this conference,” said Lastimosa.

Should Pogoy make his return, that could also be a huge help for the Tropang Giga who have been playing shorthanded with injuries with Poy Erram, Kib Montalbo, Paul Varilla, Justin Chua and Matt Ganuelas-Rosser.

His comeback may also help alleviate the impact of Mikey Williams’ departure from the team after his contract was terminated by the team management with no resolution being seen to their contract standoff.

“And I’m looking at Roger – kasi nag-start na siyang mag-workout sa amin, eh – we could probably see him as early as Christmas Day (against Barangay Ginebra). As of now, nag-uumpisa pa lang siya ng shooting, light workout, weights, getting in shape,” added Lastimosa.
