Sandara Park takes on ambassador role for Korea’s overseas office

MANILA, Philippines — Korean singer Sandara Park was named an ambassador for the Overseas Koreans Affairs Office, tasked with assisting the agency support Korean nationals outside South Korea through promotional efforts.

The 2NE1 member announced her new role on social media, posting photos of herself receiving the documents officializing her involvement.

"I am truly grateful to play a meaningful role," Sandara said in Korean, crediting her time in the Philippines surrounded by fellow Koreans.

"From now on, I will work diligently to be a family that helps my overseas compatriots and the Republic of Korea. Thank you!" the singer added.

The agency responded to Sandara on Instagram in a comment, thanking her in Korean for "empathizing with the heart of compatriots."

"Please continue to be a wonderful bridge connecting Korea with Korean communities around the world!" the office also said.

Sandara moved to the Philippines when she was 10 years old and rose to fame after finishing as a runner-up on "Star Circle Quest."

She released several acting and music projects before returning to Korea, where she debuted with the K-pop girl group 2NE1, and from time to time, Sandara returns to the Philippines for performances and the occasional holiday.
