MANILA, Philippines – Controversial flood control contractors, Curlee and Sarah Discaya, will no longer cooperate with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), according to the commission’s Executive Director Brian Hosaka.
“They invoked their right against self-incrimination and manifested that they will no longer cooperate with the investigation being conducted by the ICI,” Hosaka said in a press conference on Wednesday, October 15.
“They were thinking that when they cooperate before the ICI, they will be getting a favorable recommendation from the commission as state witness(es),” he said.
Hosaka said that the couple cited ICI Commissioner and former public works secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson’s statement in an interview with journalist Karen Davila that the couple was not being considered as state witnesses. The video of this interview was uploaded on Monday, October 13.
Despite their withdrawal, Hosaka assured that the investigation will proceed, noting that the commission already obtained several documents from the couple.
