MANILA, Philippines — A deadly quick release that makes him more efficient from the perimeter and deep treys. This is one of the weapons in the arsenal of Migs Pascual, who is using the ongoing MPBL preseason in becoming a much better player.

Entering his second season, much is expected on the cerebral guard, who will be bringing his youthful energy and rich experience playing in international competitions.

Pascual is one of the vital cogs of Sarangani and is expected to provide not just his playmaking smarts but also his outside shooting born out of his extraordinary quick release that will certainly make him a more efficient outside shooter in catch and shoot situations.

"It's a given that when you give Migs Pascual an opening, he will not hesitate to shoot," said Mike Perez, the analyst working in the MPBL preseason games. "It's only the preseason, that's why we're not seeing volume shots from him, but we expect more from him as the season goes on."

Pascual is one player who's not gun shy every time there's an opportunity to shoot. In one game last season, he unloaded seven three-point shots on his way to finishing with 21 points.

But make no mistake about it, shooting is not just Pascual's cup of tea as there was one game where he also completed a triple-double performance, proving that he's an all-around player.

"When the season starts, you can expect Migs to shoot, four or five times from beyond the arc. But it's still early in the preseason and maybe, Migs is trying to get his teammates more involved to be able to find their niche in Sarangani," added Perez.

According to Perez, Pascual's brand of game is something that Sarangani needed. While the former Batang Gilas co-captain is more of a facilitator, he makes good decisions on when to release those shots.

"Those are the shots he needed to take," said Perez, right after Pascual hit two three-point shots in the third period after hitting one earlier in the game. "I don't think there's any other player, in my opinion, that can put the ball on the floor and have the ability to make a quick release than Pascual." (Contributed story)
