Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows have seen a cavalcade of celebrities both on stage and in attendance.
Shows have featured surprise guests and in the throngs of the performances, movie stars and other musicians are often siloed in the VIP sections of the crowd.
With several dates secured for Swift in Toronto, there’s no shortage of Canadian celebrities and politicians likely to gather in the heart of the city to see the world’s biggest pop star.
As we approach the long-awaited concert weekends, here is a guide to all things “Tayronto.”
Which celebrities could show up at the Eras Tour in Toronto?
Drake
He may have lost his battle with Kendrick Lamar, but Toronto is still (ostensibly) Drake’s city.
Drake and Taylor Swift have a long history, dating back to 2016 when tabloids reported that Drake had gone “buck wild” at a Petco, buying toys for Swift’s cats, Dr. Meredith Grey and Detective Olivia Benson.
There were even rumblings of a Swift and Drake collaboration, recorded for her Reputation album that never saw the light of day.
But, there’s no telling how the relationship between the two has aged — especially after Drake dragged Swift into his beef with Kendrick with his “Taylor Made Freestyle” track.
Alanis Morissette
There are a few Canadian music icons that are a near-lock for an Eras Tour appearance — Alanis Morissette is one of them.
In the early days of Swift’s rise, when she performed at the Air Canada Centre in 2011 on her Speak Now tour, she covered Morissette’s “You Learn” — but more recently, the two have shared the stage.
“So many of the female singer-songwriters of my generation, including myself, would not write the way that we do without her or her music,” Swift said of Morissette at the Los Angeles stop of her 1989 tour in 2015.
The pair performed what Swift said was “the greatest breakup song of all time,” Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.”
Avril Lavigne
You can’t include Alanis Morissette without mentioning her early aughts successor, Avril Lavigne.
Swift has twice before performed “Complicated” on stage. Once, at the ACC in 2011 as a cover, and again in 2015 with Lavigne herself.
The pair have a mutual admiration, with People reporting that Swift had sent the Canadian pop star from Napanee, Ont. a bouquet praising her album “Love Sux” after its release in 2022.
Bryan Adams
The man who wrote one of Swift’s favourite songs of all time has to go on the list, right?
And there aren’t many people who top Bryan Adams on the Canadian pop music royalty list. And the two have pulled a surprise collaboration in Toronto before — when Swift was last in Toronto in 2018 she brought out Adams to duet “Summer of ‘69” at the Rogers Centre. He has even credited her with inspiring him to re-record his masters.
Adams is scheduled to perform in Spain and Portugal during Swift’s dates in Toronto but, with all the money between them, what’s a short private jet ride between friends?
Shania Twain
It’s surprising that Shania Twain and Taylor Swift haven’t shared the stage already. The pair of genre-bending pop stars have a well-recorded friendship.
Twain has commended Swift’s work ethic in the past, “She is living an exhausting existence, but she’s dedicated and committed to herself, to her art, and her work,” Twain told Haute Living in April.
And it wouldn’t be Twain’s first time at an Eras Tour performance, after attending Swift’s Vegas show.
Simu Liu
The Marvel and Barbie star has already been to the Eras Tour show in Seattle, where he collected an absurd amount of friendship bracelets — but there’s no doubt that blockbuster money is enough for at least one ticket to see Swift in Toronto.
Shawn Mendes
They’ve collaborated on songs in the past, shared a stage — the stars are basically aligned for Shawn Mendes to welcome Taylor Swift into his home country.
Mendes was featured on a remix of Swift’s song “Lover” and he also joined Swift onstage when she covered his hit song “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” on her Reputation Tour.
Justin Bieber
There’s history, there’s even beef — but maybe this could be an olive branch?
Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber have a long and complicated history. They were, early in their careers, friends — but that relationship soured as both became megastars, their feud having drawn in others like Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber.
But, the two have performed together in the past — 13 years ago when Swift and Bieber sang “Baby” together at the Staples Center.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively
The celebrity power-couple are well-known friends of Swift’s — and though Reynolds will have several tour dates in his hometown Vancouver to see Swift, why not extend an appearance to all of Swift’s Canadian stops?
Lively and Swift have reportedly been friends for nearly a decade, often sharing photos of them together on social media. Swift has even featured Lively and Reynold’s children in her music.
Tessa Virtue and Morgan Rielly
Canadian figure-skating star Tessa Virtue, and her husband Morgan Rielly — defenceman for the Leafs — caught Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Chicago.
Maybe it’s time for round two?
Maggie Connors
For representation from both of Toronto’s hockey teams, PWHL Toronto forward Maggie Connors is the team’s “Resident Swiftie,” and has pulled several other teammates into Swift-themed TikToks.
Justin Trudeau
Don’t be surprised to catch Justin Trudeau at an Eras Tour show — after all, it was the PM’s public plea that put extra pressure on the superstar to solidify her Canadian dates.
Olivia Chow and Toronto City Council
Council, namely Coun. Jennifer McKelvie, pushed for temporarily renaming Queen Street West and John Street into “Taylor Swift Way” during the pop star’s stay in the city. The change will be paid for by Rogers, but Coun. Josh Matlow likely won’t be invited. He was the lone vote against the street name, wanting council to focus on more pressing issues facing Torontonians.
