‘The Beast’ caged anew over ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ vs Ginebra

The PBA Commissioner’s Office cracked the whip on Calvin Abueva anew after his ejection and outburst during Magnolia’s 89-84 victory over Ginebra Sunday, June 19.

“The Beast”, who was summoned to appear to the Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, is suspended for one game and fined P10,000 over his “unsportsmanlike conduct” after bumping Ginebra’s John Pinto. The incident drew his second technical foul which led to his ejection in the game.

The new controversy involving Abueva didn’t end there as a video of him immediately leaving the Mall of Asia Arena after he was thrown out made rounds on social media. In the video, Abueva was heard shouting “Japan, Japan” and “Bye, PBA”.

The enigmatic forward also posted on his IG story, seemingly challenging the call of the referees that led to his ejection.

“Bigyan ako ng malinis na video kung meron man o wala. Kung meron man aalis ako sa Magnolia, kung mali ba ang tawag na yun,” Abueva said in the now deleted story.

It’s unclear whether Abueva’s antics outside the court contributed to the decision but the PBA explained that the Magnolia forward has already been warned after a first unsportsmanlike conduct prior to the PBA season and that a similar offense would result in a suspension.

This is the latest punishment Abueva had in his 10-year professional career including the infamous indefinite suspension he received after getting involved in a series of controversies including the incident where he clotheslined then TNT import Terrence Jones in June 2019.
