GMA News pillar and multi-awarded broadcast journalist Mike Enriquez is back on television and radio just in time for what he had been praying for — GMA Network's comprehensive Eleksyon 2022 coverage.
“It feels great to be back in harness, so to speak. Paraphrasing one of my favorite World War 2 generals Douglas MacArthur, 'People of the Philippines, I have returned!'” exclaimed the veteran radio-TV anchor via Zoom interview.
Monday, March 28, saw viewers and listeners happily welcoming back the trusted and well respected veteran broadcaster in his place on the flagship newscast “24 Oras” with fellow GMA News pillars Mel Tiangco and Vicky Morales.
Every Saturday, he will also resume hosting the long-running public affairs program, “Imbestigador.”
Enriquez's return could not have come at a better time because, in less than 60 days, the country is electing its next set of leaders.
“For us newsmen, elections are always a major coverage we want to be part of,” explained the popular broadcaster, who underwent a successful heart bypass and kidney replacement surgery during his time away.
“We are now in preparations for our huge and, more importantly, credible election coverage. In God's perfect time, he willed that I return to work on the air now that kailangan na kailangan.”
He is expected as before to play a big part in the “Eleksyon 2022: The GMA News and Public Affairs' Election Coverage” on May 9, together with Tiangco, Morales, Arnold Clavio, Howie Severino and Jessica Soho.
On radio, Enriquez is also returning to his regular programs for Super Radyo DZBB 594 which are also simulcast on GTV via “Dobol B TV.”
These are “Super Balita sa Umaga” with Joel Reyes Zobel back to back with “Saksi sa Dobol B.”
In December 2021, GMA Network announced that Enriquez was taking a leave of absence to undergo a medical procedure requiring hospital confinement and a three-month isolation period.
