MANILA, Philippines — One rung up.
University of Santo Tomas is going up the stepladder Final Four after sweeping the Adamson Lady Falcons, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19, in their UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball clash Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Golden Tigresses, who were not able to win a set against Adamson in the eliminations, did not yield one this time around.
Angge Poyos powered UST with 17 points on 15 attacks and two service aces, to go with eight digs and seven receptions. Reg Jurado chipped in 13 markers and 14 digs.
With the Tigresses getting the first two sets with ease, the two squads were off to a tight third set.
UST led by one, 14-13, before they got separation with three straight points, 17-13.
Adamson tried to climb out the hole, trailing by just three late, 19-22.
But an Avril Bron kill, followed by a narrow checkball from the same player, pushed UST to the match point, 24-19.
The Tigresses then iced the match with an off-the-block smash by Poyos.
Jonna Perdido had 10 markers for the winning team while Bron backstopped with seven.
Shai Nitura paced Adamson with 13 markers, 11 receptions and seven digs in the losing effort. Frances Mordi had 11 points for the Lady Falcons, who made their first Final Four appearance in three seasons.
The win thus set a date with the National University Lady Bulldogs for a chance to face the La Salle Lady Spikers in the finals.
