Balayage highlight is the latest hair trend for summer 2021, says hair and makeup artist Mary Letim-Ponce, founder-owner of ML Salon and Spa.

She points out that balayage — a technique for highlighting hair in which the dye is painted on to create a graduated, natural-looking effect — is popular because it brings “light” and softness to one’s tresses.

Marie Claire magazine, in a May 2020 article, says: “The term balayage is taken from the French word for “sweeping.”

“It’s a freehand hair coloring technique that gives a really blended, natural look with no harsh or obvious regrowth lines,” the magazine quotes celebrity hairdresser Richard Ward.

Balayage allows for a sun-kissed, natural looking hair color with softer, less noticeable regrowth… the principal idea being less is more when creating a natural, multi-tonal finish.”

Ponce and her husband Mark started ML Salon and Spa in 2015. They opened their third branch in Valencia Hills, Quezon City, on 18 March.

The beauty salon offered a 30-percent discount on all major services and treats to the first 10 clients of the Brazilian Blowout Service.

ML takes credit for coloring the hair of actor Carlo Aquino and Tawag ng Tanghalan Grand Champion Janine Berdin in 2020.

Among its celebrity clients are Lorna Tolentino, Ellen Adarna, Ivana Alawi, Daiana Meneses, Regine Tolentino, Nathalie Hart, Karen Reyes, Jelai Andres and Starstruck graduate Daniela Cristofani.
