MANILA, Philippines — Sweet revenge.

The Far Eastern University Tamaraws exacted revenge against the National University Bulldogs in four sets, 22-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20, in a rematch of the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball finals Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

FEU thus remained on top of the Season 88 men’s volleyball standings with a 3-0 slate, while NU dropped to 2-1.

Four Tamaraws finished in double digits, led by Lirick Mendoza, who had 17 points on 13 attacks, three blocks and an ace. Amet Bituin chipped in 16 markers.

With FEU needing just one more set to grab the win, they took a 19-11 lead in the fourth set.

NU though unleashed five straight points to inch closer, 16-20, after a block on Mikko Espartero.

The Tamaraws were able to go on a 3-1 blitz, capped by a miscue by the Bulldogs on the attack, to go up, 22-17.

NU tried to claw out of the hole, but a kill by Mendoza and a dig by Dryx Saavedra on Jade Disquitado’s spike that went in iced the match for the Tamaraws.

Saavedra had 15 points for the winning squad while Doula Ndongala had 14.

Buds Buddin muscled his way for NU with 21 markers on 17 attacks, three aces and a block, while Leo Ordiales and Disquitado had 15 and 13 points, respectively.

In the first game of the day, University of the East finally tallied a win after 23 straight losses after a five-set victory over the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 30-32, 15-12.

Raquim Aceron powered the Red Warriors with 24 points, all attacks, to go with 21 excellent receptions. CJay Nabora and Marklee Budias had 17 and 16 markers, respectively.

Jims Ducusin top-scored for Adamson with 24 points while Richard Besorio had 17, with nine coming from blocks while eight from attacks.

The two teams are now holding 1-2 win-loss records.
