MANILA, Philippines — The Most Valuable Player plum means so much more for Adamson star Shai Nitura.
Nitura was officially crowned as the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball MVP on Saturday, being the first Lady Falcon to be crowned as such.
The 21-year-old spiker, after being awarded, said her awards just show that they are also capable of making it to the finals.
“I'm grateful na binigay ni God to sa akin, and I'm gonna be happy with it, of course, and gonna be grateful, pero hindi naman doon titigil yung career ko, yung career namin, and yung pag pu-push namin to get into finals,” she told reporters.
“So andoon pa rin talaga yung focus namin, so actually, this only means na capable talaga kaming makapasok ng finals,” she added.
Aside from the MVP award, Nitura was also crowned Best Outside Spiker.
Her teammate Fhei Sagaysay was also named Best Setter.
“Meron kaming, meron tayong Fhei, meron kaming other players na pwedeng mag-push through it sa upcoming seasons na meron pa kami as a team.”
Adamson finished as the third seed this season with a 9-5 record in the eliminations. But the team was swept in the first rung of the stepladder semifinals by the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses.
“Very honored po ako na ibalik yung binigay sa aking tiwala, positivity, yung tulong na binigay ng Adamson sa amin, sa akin, sa buong team,” she said.
“Binigyan kami ng [Adamson] hindi lang basta sa pera, sa dorm, sa pag-aaral, kung hindi puso sa paglalaro at puso para ipanalo yung Adamson, yung Adamson community at ipaglaban sila.”
