MANILA, Philippines — Ten out of 10.
The La Salle Lady Spikers remained perfect in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament after blasting the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in straight sets, 25-15, 25-18, 25-20, Sunday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.
La Salle thus clinched a Final Four berth in the tournament, the 16th straight season they did so.
Shevana Laput stood tall for the Lady Spikers with 16 points on 14 attacks and two blocks, while Angel Canino had 15 markers. Amie Provido added 10 points.
With La Salle holding a commanding two sets-to-none lead, the team was leading by just one, 20-19, in the third set after a service error by Provido.
But back-to-back points by Lilay del Castillo pushed their lead to three, 22-19.
A Fina Ali quick snapped the run, but Canino powered in a kill and a service ace to push the Lady Spikers to the match point, 24-20.
Ali then sealed the win for La Salle with an attack error.
Nina Ytang powered UP with eight markers on six attacks, a block and an ace. Kianne Olango and Jelai Gajero chipped in seven points apiece for the 4-6 Fighting Maroons.
