MANILA, Philippines — La Salle’s dominance n the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament continues.

The La Salle Lady Spikers remained unblemished after manhandling the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 25-12, 25-15, 25-19, Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Angel Canino, Shane Reterta, Maria Michaela Santos and Amie Provido stood out for La Salle, which played without Shevana Laput.

Canino top-scored with 12 points, while Provido and Reterta had 11 apiece. Santos, for her part, had 10 markers.

“Sobrang happy ako sa performance ng teammates ko kasi pinakita namin na gusto naming lumaban para kay Shevana. Ayung laban na ito, hindi para kay Lord, hindi sa La Salle community, kundi para kay Shevana rin,” Canino said.

“Gusto naming ipakita sa kaniya na we can do everything sa team na ito, na maipanalo namin ang game.”

After easy wins in the first two sets, the Taft-based squad looked primed to have another dominant win in the third frame, going up 18-8.

But the Fighting Maroons did not go down easily. They were able to slice the deficit to six, 15-21, after an off-the-block attack by Casiey Dongallo.

A service error by Pling Baclay gave La Salle a 22-15 advantage, but back-to-back points by Dongallo made it 17-22.

But a drop ball by Althea Cabradilla pushed the Lady Spikers closer to the win, 23-17.

A block point and an attack error by Shane Reterta closed the gap, 19-23, but a service error by Dongallo, followed by a down-the-line dagger by Canino, iced the match.

The Lady Spikers, still yet to drop a set this season, punched in 44 attacks against their opponent’s 18. They also had eight blocks against three for UP.

Lilay del Castillo had six points for La Salle while Eshana Nunag tossed up 15 excellent sets.

Dongallo, Jelai Gajero, Irah Jaboneta and Nina Ytang had four points apiece for the Fighting Maroons.

The Lady Spikers rose to 3-0 in the season, while UP dropped to 2-1.
