MANILA, Philippines — Filipino Olympian Aira Villegas settled for silver in the women’s 50 kilogram boxing event after absorbing a unanimous-decision loss to Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat Friday at the Chulalongkorn University Sports Center in Bangkok.
At the end of three rounds, all five judges scored the match in favor of Raksat.
Villegas, who bagged a bronze medal in the Paris Olympics last year, started aggressively, landing crisp combinations.
Raksat, though, was able to counter and land clean shots as well.
And while the Filipina tried to close the gap in the third round, the judges ultimately called the match in favor of the hometown bet.
The 30-year-old pride of Tacloban now added a silver medal in her SEA Games haul. She previously won a bronze medal in the biennial sports meet.
