Wassmer sworn in as Monetary Board member

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli M. Remolona Jr. has administered the oath office to new Monetary Board member Walter C. Wassmer on Thursday, July 18.

Wassmer, a veteran banker, will serve the remaining term of former Monetary Board member Bruce J. Tolentino or until July 2026. Tolentino retired early in June.

In a previous statement, Remolona said Wassmer will “bring with him decades of banking experience which will prove invaluable to the policy-making body and the decisions of the Monetary Board.”

The BSP said Wassmer attended his first regular Monetary Board meeting on Thursday.

Wassmer was formerly top management of BDO Unibank Inc. of the SM Group.

The BSP’s Monetary Board has seven members including Remolona as the chairperson. The other members are: Finance Secretary Ralph G. Recto, Benjamin E. Diokno, Romeo L. Bernardo and Rosalia V. De Leon.

Malacanang has yet to announce the seventh member of the Monetary Board who will serve the remaining term of Anita Linda R. Aquino who also retired early last June.
