Elreen Ando is the Philippines’ 11th Olympian after gaining qualification through the continental rankings International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Saturday morning.
Ando will compete in the women’s 64kg division after ranking 9th place, beating out Anuujin Ganzorig of Mongolia for the lone continental qualification spot.
Only the top weightlifter per continent not directly qualified will earn a spot to the Tokyo Olympics
She will be the country’s second weightlifter after Hidilyn Diaz to join the Summer Games on 23 July.
Alongside Diaz, Ando will join the Philippine delegation that boasts Cris Nievarez of rowing, Kurt Barbosa of taekwondo, boxers Eumir Marcial, Carlo Paalam, Irish Magno and Nesthy Petecio in the Olympics together with stars like, Carlos Yulo of gymnastics, EJ Obiena of athletics, and Margielyn Didal of skateboarding.
