Jason Chen, Chairman and CEO of Acer, addressing a gathering of international media, articulates Acer’s groundbreaking strategies for integrating sustainability with innovation, highlighting the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and technological advancement.

Chen’s vision for “Conscious Technology” underscores the importance of developing technology that empowers individuals and contributes positively to the environment. He believes that businesses can achieve this by focusing on three key areas:

Reducing their environmental footprint: This includes initiatives such as using recycled materials in products, improving energy efficiency, and investing in renewable energy sources.

Developing sustainable products and services means designing products with longer lifespans, more accessible repair options, and end-of-life recycling programs. It also involves providing services that promote sustainability, such as cloud computing solutions that reduce energy consumption.

Engaging stakeholders in sustainability efforts includes collaborating with suppliers, partners, and customers to promote sustainable practices throughout the value chain.

Acer has already implemented its “Conscious Technology” vision in several concrete steps. The company has been investing heavily in renewable energy to achieve 100% renewable energy usage by 2035. Additionally, Acer has introduced a range of eco-friendly products, such as laptops made from recycled materials and packaging that is 90% recyclable.

In a meeting with a select group of media from the Asia Pacific region, Chen emphasized the significant impact of his message delivered at COP28. His remarks resonated strongly with fellow business leaders and other attendees and highlighted the strategic importance of sustainability in business. Chen argued that sustainability should be seen not as a mere cost factor but as a vital opportunity for companies to distinguish themselves and foster long-term value.

At the meeting, Chen shared several key insights. He urged for an accelerated adoption of renewable energy to combat climate change, a consequence of global warming. Chen positioned Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations as opportunities for business growth rather than burdensome costs. He emphasized the critical role of technology in shaping a better, more sustainable future while highlighting the responsibility of its use.

When asked what he is most proud of when it comes to Acer’s sustainability initiatives and achievements, Chen beamed with pride when he discussed the company’s extensive use of recycled materials. He emphasized the significant environmental impact of Acer’s packaging, which is now 90% recyclable. This translates to a significant reduction in waste and resource consumption, setting a new standard for sustainable packaging practices in the industry.

Chen further highlighted the vital link between cybersecurity and environmental responsibility. He pointed out that 43% of cyberattacks target Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs), and 60% of these businesses collapse due to ransomware. Acer firmly believes that robust cybersecurity is essential for long-term sustainability, and its commitment to protecting businesses from cyber threats reflects this belief.

He also expressed immense pride in Acer’s diversification into new industries beyond its traditional PC roots. He lauded the company’s success in penetrating mobility, healthcare, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) sectors. Acer’s expansion into these diverse fields demonstrates its agility and adaptability in the ever-evolving technological landscape.

Another key area of focus for Acer is the innovative application of AI in healthcare. Chen shared with the media a groundbreaking AI-powered bone density scanner, which offers an extra layer of functionality compared to traditional X-rays. This technology has already received approval from the Taiwan FDA, paving the way for its widespread adoption in healthcare settings.

Acer’s presence at COP28 extends beyond mere presentations. The company actively participated in climate action and sustainable development discussions, sharing its expertise and collaborating with stakeholders to drive positive change. Acer’s unwavering dedication to environmental responsibility and its embrace of cutting-edge technology position it as a true leader in the tech industry, paving the way for a more sustainable and innovative future.

Chen’s leadership and commitment to sustainability are inspiring others to take action. His message is clear: the time for delay is over. We must all work together to create a more sustainable future for our planet.

Acer’s participation in COP28 was a significant step forward in the fight against climate change. The tech giant has demonstrated that businesses can be a powerful force for good, inspiring others to follow suit. We must all take action to address climate change, and together, we can create a more sustainable future for future generations. As Jason Chen, the Chairman and CEO of Acer, said: “Yes, we can do it.”
