Asian Games finals loss serves as motivation for Marcial in Paris

Instead of complaining about his 19th Asian Games finals loss, Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial would rather use it as a motivation to train harder for the Paris Olympics next year.

Marcial, whom a lot of Pinoy fans said was the real winner in the men's 80kg final against Chinese Tuohetaerbieke Tanglatihan, shared this to the media at the Milky Way Cafe on Sunday evening, October 8.

The Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist, who scored two knockout victories in the Hangzhou Games, said that the ultimate goal is to knock the opposition out and thus shut down the possibilities of any rigged decision from the judges.

“A lot of people say that the decision was rigged and I got cheated. I'm going to use this as a motivation to train harder because had I knocked him out, had I really beaten him up, there would have not been any questions and there would have not been any chance of me getting cheated,” said Marcial.

“I'm going to take this as a motivation for my training for my next fights and for the Olympics. I accepted the judges' decision. I respect the result.”

For Marcial, maybe the gold was denied from him in the Asiad because it is being reserved for the Olympics next year. It is certainly something that he's going to work for as he also prepares for at least two more professional fights in the United States before going back to train with the national team.

“God willing. I will work hard to win the gold. I don't know about God's plans for me but it's up to him. On my part, I'm going to do my best and train well for the Olympics. I'm going to work on my shortcomings and study the areas where I can improve,” said Marcial.

“I made so many mistakes in the finals that's why in my return to US, I will prepare for my next professional fight and the Olympics. I'm going to be more confident if we have months of preparation for the Olympics.”

Marcial qualified for the Games by virtue of being a finalist in the Asiad.
