The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a P33.78-million flood control structure along Mag-asawang Tubig River in Oriental Mindoro, ensuring the protection of low-lying and flood-prone communities there.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said that a 20-lineal meter flood control structure in Barangay Tigkan will act as a protective wall in the town’s flood-prone zones.
Mindoro Oriental District Engineer Salvador E. Abad explained that the structure keeps the river from overflowing while preventing soil erosion along the riverside.
He also noted that the flood control structure will benefit the local farmers as it protects the surrounding farms from the river overflowing during typhoons and severe rains.
The DPWH Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office implemented the flood control structure with funds under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2023. (Trixee Rosel)
