San Beda head coach Yuri Escueta acknowledged the efforts of his assistants after they completed a roller-coaster journey in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament.
Escueta offered sweet words to his deputies Boyet Fernandez and Norman Black and also to the younger coaches who worked tirelessly during their title run.
According to him, the presence of former Lions coach Fernandez and Meralco mentor Black gave them the much needed boost on and off the court.
“Very important, coach Boyet (Fernandez) and coach Norman (Black) with their championship experience, even guys like Andre (Santos), Francis (Cruz), Alex (Angeles) and Jenkins (Mesina), diba?” Escueta said.
“They really worked hard. All [of us] are students, even me I listen to the two head coaches (Black and Fernandez), and to the younger ones, we debate on everything, we talked about it para kaming nasa war room when we have coaches meetings, we have fun when we’re all together,” he added.
Escueta succeeded Fernandez, who led the Mendiola squad to its three-peat title run from 2016 to 2018.
“Sabi ko nga kay coach Boyet (Fernandez), para kay coach Boyet ‘to eh, wala naman dapat ako dito, diba?” he said.
After four years of struggle, San Beda turned the tides and proved its doubters wrong with a magical championship campaign in Season 99.
