Gatchalian made the disclosure during the hearing on the proposed budget of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) before the Senate finance subcommittee I.

Gatchalian said these undersecretaries and assistant secretaries will be evaluated as part of the rightsizing and streamlining of the operations of the DSWD.

The DSWD chief said that he has not acted on these resignations because they are still busy with the hearings conducted by the Senate and the House of Representatives on their proposed budget for next year.

He, however confirmed that they have started with the streamlining of undersecretaries – DSWD has nine although the department is allowed to have 11.

Gatchalian made the explanation after Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go asked why the DSWD had so many undersecretaries and assistant secretaries.

Gatchalian said the undersecretaries and assistant secretaries have to justify fitness and need for them to remain in the agency.

Gatchalian said that the regular employees of DSWD are not included in the ongoing streamlining.
