A four-year-old girl who was reported missing on Tuesday has been found and is safe, Toronto police say.

In a news release Tuesday afternoon, police said the girl had been last seen in the Markham Road and Eglinton Avenue East area in Scarborough around 10 a.m. on June 22.

Later in the evening, police said the girl had been found.

Duty Insp. Peter Wehby said police reported to the area on Monday afternoon for reports of a sudden death at an apartment building at 399 Markham Road.

He said police learned on Tuesday that the man who died had a four-year-old child in his custody.

"The child was not in the apartment … [so] an investigation was immediately launched, all resources were pooled and we created a command post and began looking for this little girl," Wehby said.

"It is a good news story tonight to say that all is well with her."
