Here’s what Lagman thinks of ‘EDSA-pwera’ ad campaign

Crudely crafted and devoid of substance.

That’s how Liberal Party (LP) President Albay 1st district Rep. Edcel Lagman described on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 10 the so-called “EDSA-pwera” advertisement.

“The ad is crudely crafted and there is nothing substantial conveyed in the message,” said Lagman, a self-styled independent minority member of the House of Representatives.

Going beyond the surface, the veteran congressman further spoke his mind as to what the viral ad is all about.

“The ‘EDSA-pwera’ Charter Change ad campaign is part of the Marcos family’s continuing demonization of the EDSA People’s Power Revolution which ousted the Marcos dictatorship and helped install the ‘Cory Constitution’ or the present 1987 Philippine Constitution,” Lagman said.

The minute-long ad cast in a bad light the framing of the existing Charter following the 1986 EDSA People Power revolution.

“EDSA-pwera” is a play on a Filipino phrase that means “left out”. And according to the ad, the restrictive nature of the Charter had caused Filipinos to get left out from what could have been benefits in terms of foreign investments, education, agriculture, and the economy.

To illustrate this lack of progress, the actors in the commercial stood still as if they were playing the mannequin challenge.

The incumbent Chief Executive, President Marcos, is the son of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos Sr., who was ousted from Malacañang in 1986.
