Filipino wushu sanda athlete Gideon Padua has clinched the bronze medal in the 19th Asian Games, after forfeiting in the 60 kilogram semifinal match against Iran's Shoja Panahigelehkolaei on Wednesday.

“Wushu Federation Philippines officials have decided to forfeit Gideon Padua's match in order to minimize the risk of further injury,” the federation wrote.

With Padua forfeiting, Panahigelehkolaei will advance to the gold medal final.

That means only two Filipinos will continue their pursuit for gold, namely Arnel Mandal (56 kg) and Clemente Tabugara Jr. (65 kg).

The Philippines already has a wushu medal, in Jones Inso, after winning the bronze in the men's Taijiquan/Taijijian. Mandal and Tabugara are also assured of a bronze, pending their semifinal results against Kyrgyzstan's Avazbek Amanbekov and Samuel Marbun, respectively.
