Deputy Majority Leader and ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo clarified on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 16 that there were no discussions of an impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte within the House leadership.
Tulfo was reacting to statements made by Deputy Minority Leader ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro that same morning on the alleged talks of an impeachment against the second-highest official in the country.
Tulfo said he took it upon himself to call ranking House members–including House Speaker Martin Romualdez–to find out what was going on.
“Wala e. Hindi yan na-tackle, walang pinag-usapan, no such thing na pinag-uusapan ng mga party leaders o House leadership (There is none. That wasn’t tackled, nothing about that was discussed, the party leaders or House leadership spoke of no such thing),” he said.
Tulfo, the deputy majority leader for communications, says it’s possible that someone was just out to create intrigue.
“Wala namang nakikitang impeachable offense na ginawa ang VP. Alam naman natin yung grounds ng impeachment. Wala tayong nakikitang she violated the Constitution. So bakit ii-impeach yung tao?” asked the solon, who is a popular broadcast journalist.
(We don’t see any impeachable offense on the part of the VP. We know what the grounds of impeachment are. We didn’t see her violate the Constitution. So why would you impeach her?)
“Siguro may gumagawa lang ng intriga. But at this point kasi, wala namang nakikita na the Vice President did something wrong na impeachable offense,” he added.
(I think someone is just trying to sow intrigue. But at this point, we didn’t see the Vice President commit aby impeachable offense.)
“I don’t know where Cong Castro got it kaya medyo nagulat din yung leadership kanina kung saan nanggaling yun (that’s why the leadership was surprised to hear about it, they wondered about where it came from),” Tulfo further said.
