Jeron Teng explores options in PBA free agency

Veteran forward Jeron Teng is now exploring his options in the PBA free agency market after being released by Converge.

Teng's representative Danny Espiritu said the 6-foot-2 former De La Salle University standout is “now on his own.”

“Converge offered him two years, but then, previous to that, before the PBA Draft, Jeron felt like he was probably going to be traded because he was not being given an offer for a new contract since his old contract was to expire on August 31,” Espiritu told the Manila Times in Filipino.

Espiritu said the FiberXers management eventually offered him a new two-year deal.

They also learned later on that Converge indeed placed Teng on the trading block.

Teng, however, did not accept the offer and Converge decided to give him his release papers.

“We already have that document of his release papers,” said Espiritu.

“Honestly, there are offers from different teams for Jeron, but for now we are studying all those options before he decides.”

Teng became part of Converge after the company acquired the Alaska franchise in 2022.

The 29-year-old wingman was selected fifth overall by Alaska in 2017 after a decorated collegiate career that saw him win two UAAP titles with La Salle.

Teng ended the 2022-23 season by averaging 11 points. 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 10 games for Converge, which reached the quarterfinal round in the Governors' Cup, before being knocked out by San Miguel Beer.
