Kai Sotto transfers to Yokohama in B.League

Filipino import Kai Sotto has switched teams in the Japan B. League on a temporary transfer.

This time, Sotto is moving to the Yokohama B-Cosairs on a loan from the Hiroshima Dragonflies, the former announced on a social media post on Thursday, Dec. 28.

“This time, from Hiroshima Dragon Fries. We would like to announce that a player has decided to join the B-Corsairs on a temporary transfer. Jersey number is “11” and the inscription on the uniform is “Sotto”,” the post read.

The Gilas big man thanked the squad amid his recovery from a lumbar disc hernia which was why Hiroshima has also sidelined him for the 2023-24 Emperor’s Cup.

Sotto signed an extension with Hiroshima earlier this year for the ongoing season where the team is currently struggling with an 11-13 win-loss tally.

Meanwhile, Yokohama is also looking to steady its ship with Sotto’s addition after also seeing an up-and-down season so far with a 10-14 record in the standings.

“I wanna thank the team Yokohama B-Corsairs and the organization for trusting and signing me to play for the team, despite coming off an injury. I’m very blessed to be given this opportunity and I will make the most out of it. I’m very excited to play for the city of Yokohama. I can’t wait to win more games and get better as a player,” said Sotto in the statement.

The 7-foot-3 center has been nursing the back injury during this year’s NBA Summer League that saw him suit up for the Orlando Magic.

Soon after, Sotto missed some chunk of Gilas Pilipinas’ preparations for the FIBA World Cup held last August as the injury kept him from playing for some time.
