Lady Falcons display resilience against Lady Spikers

(UPDATE) IT'S not over until it's over.

The Adamson Lady Falcons understood this adage and embraced it Wednesday night.

Down by nine points at 11-20 in the fourth set against the La Salle Lady Spikers, the Lady Falcons mustered the strength to extend Game 1 of the Shakey's Super League National Invitationals finale on Wednesday, August 9, at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan.

“I told them (Lady Falcons) that we're always the underdogs when we're facing La Salle,” said Adamson head coach JP Yude.

“Now, we're going to make them work. We need to fight back if we want to win.”

Fought back, the Lady Falcons did as they uncorked an 11-1 rally to take a 22-21 advantage in the fourth set.

They went back-and-forth against the UAAP defending champs and ultimately won the set at 27-25 to force a decider.

Red Bascon drilled two straight points that sent the match to a fifth set and continued her heroics in the final stanza as Adamson pulled the rug from under La Salle, 22-25, 25-17, 17-25, 27-25, 16-14.

“I always tell them that I trust them. I always encourage them especially in the fourth set, we were down but I told them the game's not yet over. I told them to take it one play at a time,” said Yude.

“That probably absorbed that message because they hear me saying that 'it's not over yet, shape up, fix your body language.' They saw that eagerness to push them.”

Skipper Lucille Almonte fired 24 points to lead the way for the Lady Falcons, who can finish the best-of-three series on Saturday.
