A magnitude 4.8 earthquake occurred Thursday afternoon in Zambales, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs director Teresito “Toto” Bacolcol said the tremor happened around 3:16 p.m. some 26 kilometers southwest of Palauig town, also in the province.
Tectonic in origin, the earthquake has a depth of focus of 46kms, Bacolcol said.
Instrumental intensity 3 was recorded in Botolan, Iba, Cabangan and San Marcelino, Zambales, Phivolcs said.
Both aftershocks and damage to infrastructure are not expected from the latest quake, according to Bacolcol.
