Filipino Olympic boxer Eumir Marcial has punched his ticket to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, after advancing to the 71-80 kilogram division finals of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China on Wednesday.
Marcial knocked out Ahmad Ghousoon in the second round of the semifinals on Wednesday to secure a spot in the gold medal match against Tanglatihan Tuohetaerbieke of China on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
Tuohetaerbieke had defeated Turabek Khabibullaev of Uzbekistan in semis via split decision.
Marcial had already eclipsed his bronze medal performance from the previous Asian Games in Indonesia.
Prior to meeting Ghousoon, Marcial defeated Dalai Ganzorig of Mongolia in the Round of 32, then Nguyen Manh Cuong of Vietnam in the Round of 16 before knocking out Weerapon Jongjoho of Thailand in the quarterfinals. ARIC JOHN SY CUA
