It was party time downtown on Oct. 17 as the 519 Community Centre played host to a sold-out fundraiser to celebrate the launch of the book “First to Leave the Party: My Life with Ordinary People…Who Happen to be Famous” by art patron and philanthropist Salah Bachir. Margaret Atwood and Atom Egoyan were among the 200 attendees at the gala, which was emceed by drag superstar Tynomi Banks and included a reading by Ann-Marie MacDonald and musical performances by Lorraine Segato and Carole Pope.
