Mayor Honey leads oath-taking of newly elected barangay officials

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan led the oath-taking of the newly elected barangay officials at San Andres Gym in Malate, Manila on Nov. 19 and 20.

In her speech, Lacuna-Pangan congratulated the winners and reminded them to consider the collective views from the residents as they are the ones directly in contact with the communities bridging the communication between barangays and the local government.

“Magtulungan tayong gawing maayos, malinis, masigla, mapayapa, maunlad at tunay na Maringal ang Maynila (Let’s work together to make Manila orderly, clean, lively, peaceful, prosperous and truly magnificent),” the mayor said as she administered the oath of office of barangay officials representing 896 barangays in Manila.

Apart from their mandate to serve, the mayor has entrusted them the duty to plan and manage barangay funds properly, prioritizing the primary needs of their residents.

“Sa panunumpa ninyo sa katungkulan, nawa’y naisapuso ninyo ang bawat salitang inyong binigkas, sapagkat ‘yun ang nagsisilbing kredo o panata ninyo sa inyong paglilingkod. Kayo ang aming kasama, kaisa, at kaagapay sa pagbibigay Kalinga sa lahat ng Manileños. Kayo ang katuwang namin upang ihatid ang lahat ng mga serbisyo, diretso sa tao (In your oath of office, may you bear in your heart every word you utter, because that serves as your creed or vow in your service. You are our companion in taking care of all Manileños. You are our partner to deliver all services, straight to the person),” she said.

Meanwhile, the lady mayor assured the new barangay officials that the local government of and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will provide them supervision and proper information.

She said the Liga ng mga Barangay and the Manila Barangay Bureau will constantly coordinate and cascade guidance on all directives, projects and programs being implemented by the local and national governments.
