Meralco keeping fingers crossed on Braimoh’s condition

Meralco expressed its concerns regarding the health situation of import Suleiman Braimoh who went down with what is feared to be an Achilles injury late in its 97–94 win over NLEX on Sunday, Dec. 3.

Braimoh’s injury dampened what was looking to be another impressive showing for Braimoh who already had 34 points and eight rebounds before hurting his left leg while driving hard to the basket with 3:58 left in the game.

He had to be carried by teammates heading into the team’s locker room as he couldn’t put weight on his injured leg.

“Win is a win but obviously more than that, we’re worried about Su,” said Bolts head coach Luigi Trillo after the game.

“I feel guilty because we kind of left him out a little bit too long. You know looking back now, there’s something we could have done. Me personally, we could have subbed him a little bit so that he could have rested,” added the amiable coach.

He, however, knew full well the incident was something no one can predict.

“Those things are you know, those are accidents you can’t foresee. We just feel bad because he’s such a good person and he’s such a perfect fit for a team,” he added.

Trillo also added that Braimoh’s injury was a huge setback to Meralco’s campaign especially after the team’s strong performance so far.

If their fears turned out to be true regarding Braimoh’s injury, the Bolts may be left scampering for an immediate replacement.

Meralco currently has two more imports in contract in Prince Ibeh and Zach Lofton but the two were playing with the team during East Asia Super League games. Ibeh is not eligible to play this conference due to the height limit, while Lofton, who was playing more of a guard and wingman, cannot address the team’s need for a big man.

“We’ll have to reevaluate and get back to our coaching staff. Pag-usapan muna namin kung ano ang dapat naming gawin,” said the Meralco coach.
