Miel Pangilinan on Internet user telling her to stop eating rice: ‘Unwarranted, pretty offensive’

MANILA, Philippines — Miel Pangilinan set a fan straight when she said that leaving or giving unsolicited advice is "unwanted" and "offensive."

The daughter of actress Sharon Cuneta and former senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan shared on TikTok that she has been receiving similar comments, some well-meaning from a probably "sweet" person, but she reiterated that people should not overstep other people's boundaries.

Miel posted a reaction video with the recent comment she read on her account. It read, "Your (sic) so beautiful Miel but stop eating rice please.. sad face emoji."

She revealed that she gets this kind of comment a lot of times.

“This comment was very unnecessary and unwarranted and honestly kind of offensive. No, not kind of offensive. It’s pretty offensive.

“The thing is, right, I don’t know you, you don’t know me. And no matter how much of my content you consume, it does not give you the right, or the knowledge of what’s actually going on with my life for you to make this kind of comment, unless you were my parent, my sibling, or any kind of close friend. You do not get to make that kind of message for somebody on the Internet,” Miel said.

She said that she feels she needs to get her message across about people who have something to say or think about her health. She said that she feels it is "condescending" and she is "very, very tired" of it.

Miel added that she has her siblings, nutritionist and parents who are looking out for her.

"This is not just something that needs to be given, like public input, you know.

“Just because I am online, just because I make content online, it does not give you the right to overstep your boundaries and stick your nose in other people’s business,” she stressed.

Miel shared that she has been in recovering from an eating disorder and body issues, topics that she has been talking about in the past few years.

“One of the things I’ve been trying to relearn is the fact that I have to stop eliminating important nutrients from my diet. Part of my eating disorder was a very obsessive focus on carbs and avoiding it, which caused me to lose a lot of nutrition at a very early teenage…

“And I’m just sharing this so I hope you understand why comment like this really do affect me," she said.

Miel said that she has been trying to get out of that unhealthy thought process.

"It just gets me really bad when people make comments like this because they don't know, and I know that you're looking out for me and I know that you're probably a sweet person, but it's just that I need… there has to be a bit more awareness of boundaries because this is not a comment that you'd be saying to a random stranger… This is something that should not be commented on people's online spaces. It's just mean and unnecessary," she ended.
